Since the 2015-2016 academic year, the NVAO has assessed the quality assurance systems of universities and universities of applied sciences in Flanders through institutional reviews. Between March 2016 and March 2017, eighteen institutions underwent an appreciative yet critical review conducted by independent review panels. This first cycle of institutional reviews served as a baseline measurement and provided the foundation for a comprehensive statutory evaluation of the current quality assurance system.
The NVAO consolidated its findings and recommendations in an overview report, offering insights into the strengths of the system, areas for further development, and considerations for the future evolution of quality assurance in Flemish higher education.
