The National Framework of Qualifications in Higher Education in the Netherlands is compatible with the overarching Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher Education Area (QF-EHEA). This is stated by NVAO following the conclusion of an independent and international external verification committee.

The Higher Education Qualifications Framework in the Netherlands is not a legal document nor is it new policy, but it is a step further along the road to transparency and the harmonization of structure. The ministry of Education, Culture and Science bears an overall responsibility for the Higher Education Qualifications Framework in the Netherlands. NVAO will be charged with the task of overseeing the Higher Education Qualifications Framework in the Netherlands and keeping it up to date.
